For the month of October, as per official figures released by Statistics Canada, wholesale sales managed to rise by 0.3% to $41.1 Billion, which is the fourth consecutive monthly rise recorded. A 0.4% hike was also registered for sales by volume.
Experts have mainly attributed the increase in sales to the "automotive products and machinery and electronic equipment sectors". Growth in the said sectors managed to overshadow the weak sales recorded by food, beverages and tobacco products' sectors.
In all, 5 of the 7 major wholesale trade sectors that the agency keeps a track of displayed stronger sales figures.
While the sale of automotive parts hiked by 1.5% for October, after recording a fall for August and September, the machinery and electronic equipments market surged by 1.1%.
Most analysts and economists polled had expected the sales to rise by 0.5%, so the actual figures are somewhat lower than expectations.
The food, beverage and tobacco products sector recorded a 1.8% decline in sales, pulling the total figure down substantially.
