Officials close part of Reagan terminal due to broken pipe floods

Reagan National Airport

Officials at Reagan National Airport ordered people to evacuate a part of a gate area and blocked one terminal’s baggage area after a major flooding caused by a broken pipe.

Tara Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the airport, informed that the flooding on Saturday was ankle-deep in the Terminal C baggage claim area.

The flooding affected the US Airways the most as Terminal C is the center of the US Airways operations.

Todd Lehmacher, a spokesperson for the US Airways, said that the electricity was out and airline's shuttle ticket counter, a security checkpoint and baggage carousels were flooded with water.

US Airways’ both departing and arriving flights were cancelled for the rest of the day.

By Saturday night, the water had been shut off. However, the cause of the problem could not be determined.
