Man Slapped with Charges of Falsely Posing as Secret Service Agent

As confirmed by the authorities, a man posing as a US Secret Service agent managed to skirt past security on Saturday, at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington. He managed to make it to the 6th floor suite of offices for Secretary Kathleen Sebelius before he was stopped and questioned.

46 year old Frederick J. Nickerson then reportedly left the buildings after employees started questioning him. On Tuesday, he was arrested and slapped with charges of impersonating a Secret Service agent, and is currently being detained with a hearing pending next week in the District's federal court.

As per court papers filed by the Federal Protective Service, Nickerson once flashed what seemed to a Secret Service badge to the security guards, and also stressed that he was an employee of the agency and had to see Sebelius. He also motioned to a side of his body as if to indicate that he was carrying a gun.

"This was a troubling incident and HHS has taken immediate corrective actions including reinforcing the training of all officers on use of the federal bar list and on procedures that must be followed when non-government employees seek access to the building", said HHS spokeswoman Jenny Backus.
