On Thursday, technology and internet giant Yahoo! announced its partnerships with televisions and manufacturers of other devices, as the company looks to join others who are seeking to shift from computer to TV screen.
"Consumers are in love with their televisions, watching more TV, and demanding Internet connectivity to further enhance their viewing experience", said Arlo Rose, senior director of Yahoo! Connected TV.
The company shared that the online programs, known as "widgets" for the rapidly rising number of internet-capable TVs, would be embedded in more models and also include features like video- on-demand, social networks, gaming and online shopping.
A year after announcing its partnerships with major electronics manufacturers Samsung, LG Electronics, Sony and Vizio, Yahoo! used the Consumer Electronics Show as a platform to announce to the world its tie-ups with the Chinese firms of Hisense, ViewSonic, MIPS Technologies and Sigma Designs.
Also, the firm announced that it would soon be releasing a widgets development kit so that developers can come up with their own TV widgets.
