Keeping its promise, made at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show, SlingMedia has announced that beginning December 30, it plans to launch a beta version of the company's SlingPlayer Mobile software for select BlackBerry running OS 4.5.
With the use of Slingbox device, BlackBerry owners of the Bold, Curve 8900 & 8320, 8820, Pearl Flip 8220, and Pearl 8120 will be able to stream video to their smartphone. If BlackBerry users are not sure whether their device is compatible, they can point their BlackBerry browser to http://mobile.slingmedia.com/go/bbcheck, and get it known from SlingMedia.
For optimal viewing performance on these BlackBerry models, SlingMedia recommends either a Wi-Fi connection, or a high-speed data connection.
With the new application, BlackBerry users can watch and control home TVs and DVRs directly on a Research in Motion BlackBerry device. San Mateo, Calif.-based SlingMedia's TV streaming device would allow users remotely view their home's cable, satellite or personal video recorder from a computer over a broadband Internet connection.
It is expected during the beta period, the application will initially be free for a limited time in US, Canada and the UK. Once the beta lifts, a one-time fee of $30 will be applicable to all BlackBerry users.
