According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Illinois regulators have put up the shutters on two small banks in Illinois and Nevada; thereby indicating as many as 16 similar actions in the US in the first two months this year.

Following months of quiet discussions with potential buyers of some of its properties, cash-strapped casino operator MGM Mirage has agreed to sell its Treasure Island Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip to Ruffin Acquisition LLC for $775 million.

O.J. Simpson sentenced to nine years in prison

Brushing aside a tearful apology from the 61-year-old former football star, O. J. Simpson, the Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass sentenced him to at least nine years in prison for the kidnapping and robbery last year. Under the sentence, Simpson would be eligible for parole in 2017; the maximum time he could serve is 33 years.

Nevada’s Lt Gov indicted for fraud

Nevada's Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki has been indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday, on charges of mismanaging a multibillion-dollar college savings program when he was state treasurer. Krolicki, 47, is accused of two counts of misappropriation and falsification of accounts by a public officer and two counts of misappropriation by a treasurer.
