Henry Puna Anticipates Tropical Cook Islands As First "Green" Destination In The

Earlier in the month of July, Prime Minister Henry Puna had projected tropical Cook Islands as the first destination in the Pacific with generous green and clean environment. In addition to this, Henry Puna had also anticipated that most probably by 2015, the island will be able to fulfill its around 50% energy requirements by renewable sources while it will be celebrating its 50th independence day. In addition, the minister has claimed that the nation will succeed to make best use of solar energy as well as wind power to meet all its energy requirements, by the 2020.

Apart from this, Prime Minister has emphasized on the need of practicing all theoretical good practically to save the continuously ruining environment and also to take efficient measures to address the issue. "Economically, it's costing our country too much in fuel bills to provide electricity [from diesel generators] for our people in Rarotonga and throughout the islands”, added Henry Puna.

The Islands represent a land of around 2 million squares kilometers, situated in middle of the Pacific Ocean with 15 volcanic as well as coral islands and attracts countless tourists because of its peaceful environment, every year. As per the reports, the beautiful place is suffering a number of environmental issues these days.
