Uber Rides On New Year’s Eve Could Get Pricey with Increased Demand

Being there at the New Year bash till the bell rings can be fun but going home after that can get pricey as rideshare prices can just shoot up with growing demand. During the peak hours, a cab may cost double or more says Uber. The ride sharing service said it expects the demand to be maximum during12:30am to 2:30am and the prices would surely be the highest at that time.

Some of the Uber drivers say that they plan to cash while the New Year heat is on. One of the drivers's described what would a typical surge in ride from River North to Lakeview be.

Irineo Bolusan said "Usually it would be $15 to $10, but with surge pricing it is like $70 to $80 sometimes depending on if it is times three or times five."

Without keeping the price rise trends under the carpet, Uber on Thursday informed its users through an e-mail "Demand will be off the charts" and its not a big surprise that New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights for Uber.

Other ridesharing companies like San Francisco based Lyft says that its prime time pricing remains capped at two hundred percent. The company said, "We never price gouge our passengers."
