Mark Zuckerberg, Priscilla Chan launch ambitious $3B effort to cure disease

During the course of a Wednesday event in San Francisco, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his pediatrician wife, Priscilla Chan, announced the launch of ambitious health-related initiative for their 2015-launched philanthropic organization, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative.

The new effort announced by Zuckerberg and Chan will involve a $3 billion investment, over the next ten years, to cure disease. The main goal of the initiative is preventing, curing, and managing all diseases by the end of the century.

In announcing the new health-centric initiative for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative organization, Chan gave it an emotional introduction, narrating how she -- the daughter of Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants -- had succeeded in life due to high-quality education.

Highlighting the fact that the new health initiative is in accordance with the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative organization's key mission to advance human potential and promote equality, Chan said that the aim behind the initiative is to "work together to cure, prevent or manage all disease within our children's lifetime."

In connection with the new health initiative, Zuckerberg -- who took the stage after his wife's speech -- said that he and Chan want to "make a better future for our children."
