Wink is launching its second-gen smart home hub --- Wink Hub 2
In a recent announcement, Wink said that it is launching a second-generation version of its smart home hub. The new hub, which is notably slimmer than its predecessor, is called Wink Hub 2.
In announcing the launch of the new Wink Hub 2 smart home hub, Wink said that the device will be priced at $99, thereby marking a $30 increase over the $69-priced Hub 1. The new hub will be available from a number of retailers, including Walmart, beginning late October.
The Wink Hub 2 will have a matte white squarish body, thereby underscoring a change from the glittery look of its predecessor. The overall look of Wink Hub 2 is still similar to that of a router; and that is what it actually is for the several smart home devices which it controls, including a wide range of smart locks, lights, and other products.
According to the details shared by Wink, the new hub comes with Bluetooth Low Energy, Wi-Fi, Kidde, Lutron Clear Connect, Z-Wave, and ZigBee support, and also boasts the inclusion of Thread radio, as well as a more powerful Wi-Fi radio and Ethernet port than Hub 1.
Highlighting the fact that Wink Hub 2 smart home hub will feature "8x more RAM" and "quite a bit more processing power" than Hub 1, Nathan Smith - founder and CTO of Wink - said in statement that the new hub will be much faster at automating consumers' homes.
