Tesla displays integrated solar roof and Powerwall product for individual use
On Friday, electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors staged a product introduction event at the Universal Studios lot in Los Angeles, officially unveiling an integrated solar roof and Powerwall product for individual use.
For its official introduction of its high-design solar roof and Powerwall, Tesla put up an all-inclusive "neighborhood" display on the Universal Studios lot, showcasing a number of model homes with different custom solar roofs as well as the Powerwalls mounted on the side.
The custom roofs displayed by Tesla in model homes featured photovoltaic cells camouflaged as hacienda-style tiles. The tiles have the capability to generate solar power, sans the bulky panels available from most companies.
About Tesla's groundbreaking products aimed at attracting more customers towards solar energy, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the Friday event: "The key is to make solar look good. We want you to call your neighbors over and say, 'Check out this sweet roof'."
However, Musk refrained from divulging any details about the price for the integrated solar roof or a price-per-square foot. The availability of the integrated solar roof and Powerwall will largely depend on the scheduled voting by Tesla and SolarCity investors in November, for approval to Tesla's $2.6 billion all-stock SolarCity acquisition offer.
