Netflix launches new download feature for offline viewing
In a Wednesday announcement, popular streaming service Netflix said that it is launching the much-awaited 'downloads for offline viewing' option to give its nearly 87 million subscribers the ability to access offline videos.
In announcing the launch of downloads for offline viewing on smartphones and tablets, Netflix said that the subscribers to the streaming service worldwide can now download select TV shows and movies for viewing on iOS and Android devices when they are not connected to the internet.
According to the announcement by Netflix, a "download" button will now be available on the details page for a film or TV series on the newest versions of the company's iOS and Android apps. However, initially, all the titles on Netflix will not be available for offline viewing.
Netflix also added that latest versions of its mobile apps also come with a new menu item which shows the subscribers the titles which are presently available for download.
Meanwhile, highlighting the fact that the download option was a much-requested feature by Netflix subscribers, Eddy Wu -- Director of product innovation at Netflix -- said in a blog post announcing the new feature: "While many members enjoy watching Netflix at home, we've often heard they also want to continue their 'Stranger Things' binge while on airplanes and other places where internet is expensive or limited."
