Sales of passenger cars in the Netherlands jumped 20 per cent year-over-year to almost 29,000 units in October 2022, with the overall market outpacing the plug-in car segment.

As per EV Volumes data shared by Jose Pontes, a total of 9,758 new plug-in cars were registered or sold in the Netherlands in October this year, up roughly 17 per cent from the corresponding month of 2021. The figure reported for last month’s plug-in sales represents 34 per cent of all new registrations.

Taking Europe’s current challenging situation in consideration, the aforementioned sales figures are not bad at all. Interestingly, both all-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) contributed to sales growth in the month under review. More specifically, new plug-in car registrations for last month include 6,408 units of BEVs (up 12 per cent at 22 per cent market share) and 3,350 units of PHEVs (up 28 per cent at 12 per cent market share). Thus, a total of 9,758 plug-in cars were sold last month, up 17 per cent at 34 per cent market share.

In the first ten months of this year, a total of 82,225 plug-in electric cars were sold in the Northwestern European country, which is around 33 per cent more than a year ago and roughly 32 per cent of the total market. Of those total units, about 54,000 were BEVs, accounting for 21 per cent market share and about 28,000 were PHEVs, accounting for 11 per cent market share.

When it comes to top models, the Lynk & Co 01 PHEV grabbed the top position by getting 707 units registered in October. It wasn’t only the top plug-in model last month but also 7th overall. The outstanding result also allowed this model to secure the top position in the first ten months of this year with a total of 4,494 units registered, just ahead of the Skoda Enyaq iV that got 4,447 units registered. The difference between the two models was merely 47 units.

At the second, third, fourth and fifth spots were the Volvo XC40 BEV (521), Opel Mokka EV (300), BMW i4 (297), Volkswagen ID.4 (292), respectively.

Year-to-date (YTD), Volvo emerged as the top plug-in car brand in the Netherlands, accounting for 9.6 per cent share. KIA, BMW, Peugeot and Mercedes-Benz followed at the second, third, fourth and fifth spots, accounting for 8.9 per cent, 8.8 per cent, 6.9 per cent and 5.9 per cent share, respectively.
