Chinese automobile manufacturer BYD Limited has announced the launch of latest electric offering – the 2025 Dolphin EV, which boasts a larger battery for extended driving range at affordable price. BYD continues to push ahead with its strategy of offering affordable electric cars despite facing trouble in European market from the authorities. The company is also planning to setup a major manufacturing plant in Turkey.
The Chinese EV major priced the new 2025 Dolphin EV at $13,700 (approx. RMB 99,800). Retaining its predecessor’s affordability, the new EV enhances its appeal with a larger 45-kWh BYD Blade battery that is capable of storing enough power to deliver a range of 261 miles on a single charge.
In total there are four trims, viz., Vitality, Free, Fashion and Knight. The Vitality trim is available for the aforementioned $13,700 (RMB 99,800), while the range-topping Knight edition sets the buyers back by $17,850 (approx. RMB 129,800). The Knight addition comes equipped with a 60-kWh battery that boasts an even longer range of up to 323 miles. In addition, the vehicle promises upgraded performance with the Knight trim getting power from A-150 kW electric motor.
In the previous model, the base model came equipped with a 32-kWh battery to offer a range of up to 188 miles (approx. 302 km).
Measuring 4,125 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height, the 2025 BYD Dolphin EV is the same size as the existing model. When compared to the Chevy Bolt EV, which measures 4,145 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,611 mm in height, the new model is slightly smaller. When it comes to the new EV’s interior, there you will find the same DiLink intelligent network connection and a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment screen.
It is also worth-mentioning here that BYD announced the launch of the new 2025 model of the Dolphin EV on the same day as the 700,000th unit of the EV rolled off the brand’s production line.
The launch of the 2025 Dolphin EV has been announced amidst BYD’s strategic expansion into international markets. Recently, the automaker announced the opening of its EV manufacturing facility in Thailand. Now, the company is pushing ahead with its plans to set up plants in Turkey, Brazil and Mexico with an aim to capitalize on the soaring demand for affordable electric cars globally. Despite increasing competition in the international markets, BYD seems to be well-positioned to reclaim its position as the world’s top selling EV maker by the end of current year, thanks to its competitive pricing strategies and growing product lineup.
