California’s Eagle Mountain Casino remains closed following heavy rain and floods
Porterville, California-based Eagle Mountain Casino remains closed in wake of the recent storms and floods that devastated most parts of the region following heavy rains.
California’s Eagle Mountain Casino, which is located on the Tule River Indian Tribe’s Tule River Reservation in the Golden State, was shuttered earlier this week because of flooded roads and adverse climatic conditions in the region.
Announcing the temporary closure of the casino, the Tule River Indian Tribe of California said that safety of the tribal community would remain its top priority, including repair of roadways and providing access for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire crews.
The casino remains closed even today as roadways leading to the gaming property and several other parts of the Tule River Reservation are still impassable for most vehicles. The recent floods caused by the rash of recent storms throughout the state damaged roads and pavements.
In a recent statement, the Tule River Tribe’s chairman Neil Peyron said, “Eagle Mountain Casino will be closed until further notice. The goal is trying to restore the road to a point where we can have regular vehicle traffic.”
During the last couple of days, emergency crew members evacuated dozens of workers and patrons who had visited the gaming property ahead of the floods. The Central valley region, which includes the reservation and the close by city of Fresno, suffered hail and heavy rain with bursts of heavy lightning.
Meteorologists have warned that Central and Northern California will likely once again suffer heavy rain and more floods within the coming few days.
Meanwhile, the tribal operator of the casino has reiterated that it will likely open a new Eagle Mountain Casino at a new site on its reserved territory. The casino project, which gained federal authorities’ approval in 2019, is currently under construction. The new gaming property, which is roughly 17 miles from the current property’s location, will offer 1,750 slot machines and nearly two dozen gaming tables. The current location has some 1,200 slot machines, a poker room, and a few gaming tables. To be more precise, the new casino’s location is near the Porterville Airport off Highway 65. The project’s first construction phase will include the gaming floor, a 2,000-seat entertainment center, a coffee house, a steak house, and some other dining options, in addition to a state-of-the-art sports bar & grill. The second phase will add a 125-room hotel and spacious conference center.
